11 Reasons To See Strictly Ballroom

11 Reasons To See Strictly Ballroom
  1. Sequins, Sparkle & Sheila’s – costume designer Catherine Martin designs the stunning frocks, using over 745 million feathers and 100,000 crystals.
  2. A refreshing take on a cult classic – whilst keeping Baz Luhrmann’s colourful, frenetic style, the addition of new scenes and a new character (eccentric narrator Wally Strand, played by pop star Will Young), help deliver the story in a fresh, theatrical way that’s sure to please both fans and first-timers.
  3. Dance, Dance & more Dance! – Olivier award winner Drew McOnie choreographs dazzling routines that look sensational on stage. An inventive mix of ballroom, hip-hop and tap.
  4. Accents – whether successful or not, they’re entertaining to say the least.
  5. Slapstick Comedy – exaggerated and anarchic. A joyously camp affair!
  6. The Trolling of Donald Trump – enough said.
  7. Paso Doble – it’s hard to live up to the cinematic version but flamenco master Fernando Mira and the reverberation of over 1,000 audience members only add to the intensity and excitement of the scene.
  8. 80’s nostalgia – whether in Soutra Gilmour’s set design or in the old pop classics, it’s a nostalgia-fest for fans of the film and era.
  9. Zizi Strallen – this musical theatre star steals nearly every scene she’s in.
  10. Live Music – with orchestrations by Simon Hale, fresh from his success in Girl From The North Country and arrangements by Moulin Rouge’s own Marius de Vries, this is one of the best sounding bands in the West End.
  11. The ULTIMATE feel good experience.
